Lisa Unger is a New York Times bestselling author known for her contemporary psychological thrillers. She has also published under her given name, Lisa Miscione. Born on April 26, 1970, in New Haven, Connecticut, she grew up in the Netherlands, England, and New Jersey. Unger attended the New School in New York City, where she earned a degree in English. After graduation, she remained in New York and worked in publishing for nearly a decade before the publication of her debut novel, Angel Fire (2002), the first in a series of four novels about Lydia Strong, a true crime writer turned crime solver. Unger’s The Hollows, a series of six novels about a small town in upstate New York plagued by murders, began in 2006 with the publication of Fragile. Her 2020 novel Confessions on the 7:45 is currently in development as a television series produced by Jessica Alba.
Unger’s novels often contain elements of psychological suspense as characters struggle to differentiate between their perceptions and reality. Major themes in Unger’s novels include identity, family secrets, and the darker aspects of human nature that cause people to hurt each other. She is the current co-president of the International Thriller Writers Organization.
