Cameron Boxer, or Cam, is an eighth grader at Sycamore Middle School who loves video games and plans to become a gaming streamer. Just as he starts his stream, the doorbell rings. He tries to ignore it, but Jordan Toleffsen, the student president, wants Cam to attend a party for the Positive Action Group (P.A.G.). Jordan begins calling Cam and banging on his door. Cam quickly ends the call, but Xavier Meggett, another P.A.G. member (or pagger), calls asking where he is. Cam hangs up on Xavier, only to get a call from Pavel Dysan, one of his best friends. Pavel, clearly at the P.A.G. party, says there is an emergency with their friend Chuck, but Cam cannot hear him well over the music. Cam, Chuck, and Pavel form a gaming group called the “Awesome Threesome.”

Cam decides to go to the party to find out what is happening with Chuck. Everyone is happy to see Cam at the party, which overwhelms him. Xavier gives Cam some cookies to sell for the library fundraiser. Cam finds Pavel but loses the cookies, and the partygoers quickly eat them. Cam hides this from Xavier, worried about his reaction.
